10 Ways To Become A Better Christian In This Season

It’s only natural for you to desire to become a better Christian and grow in your faith in Jesus Christ.

As children of God, we are always looking for ways to improve on our Christian lives and represent our Father well. You can become a better Christian in this season by embracing the 10 ways shared in this article.

We are in a season of uncertainty around the world, but we can still show others that we have become better despite the challenges we face. Below are 10 ways to be a good christian in this season and be a great example to others.

1. RENEW YOUR MIND

Becoming a better Christian man or woman means that you do not live like you did before you became born again.

By renewing your mind, you will undergo transformation, and you will know what God’s will for your life is (Romans 12:2). Renewing our minds is something that we must do daily so that we will know the difference between the standards of the world and those of God.

When you renew your mind with the Word of God, you will eliminate false beliefs you have held since childhood. You also acquire new beliefs that come from God’s Word and you become new in your mind.

2. GET AWAY FROM WORLDLINESS

As Christians, we are to become less worldly and more Christlike.

We sometimes get lost in all the things that people are doing in the world and forget that we are in the world but not of it. Paul tells the Corinthian Christians that he cannot address them as people who live by the Spirit but as those who are worldly, infants in Christ (1 Corinthians 3:1).

To get away from worldliness, we have to grow in our relationship in Christ so that we can live by the Spirit and not the flesh. Becoming a better Christian means maturing in your faith.

The things of the world make you drift away from God, therefore, guard your heart against worldliness. This means that you don’t have to jump onto the next trend or keep up with every new thing in the world. Focus on your relationship with God.

3. READ AND MEDITATE ON GOD’S WORD

The NLT Bible version tells us in Joshua 1:8 to “Study this Book of Instruction continually,” and this means that we go beyond reading the Bible to studying it.

Meditating on God’s Word day and night means that you allow God to give you a revelation of Himself as you study it. Here's how to become a better Christian with a deep knowledge of the Scriptures

For you to obey God’s Word, you have to be clear on what it means beyond the surface meaning. The Word is rich in meaning and it reveals to us who God is so that we can fully submit to Him.

Knowing the Word of God deeply helps you navigate every season of your life effectively. Since we perish because of a lack of knowledge, arm yourself with the Scriptures so that you can live a victorious Christian life.

4. APPLY GOD’S WORD IN YOUR LIFE

In addition to knowing God’s Word, we need to apply it in our lives.

After meditating on it and gaining a deeper understanding, we are better placed to declare it over our lives and see big changes. The last sentence of Joshua 1:8 shows us that the result of meditating on God’s Word is success and prosperity in all we do.

We spend a lot of time looking for formulas for success, yet the simple way to succeed is to study God’s Word and apply it in your life. By obeying God’s Instruction Manual, we will know the right path to take in life and keep away from everything that corrupts us.

When you read Scriptures on a certain area of your life, make them practical in your life by declaring them. If unsure of how to apply a particular verse, ask God to show you.

5. PRAY AND FAST

Prayer and fasting are two key disciplines of the Christian faith because they help us connect to God in a powerful way.

Prayer keeps us focused on the things of God and protects us from evil. Jesus told us in Matthew 26:41 that we should pray so that we will not fall into temptation. One of the first steps to becoming a better christian is that you don’t give in to temptation to sin but instead flee from things that tempt you.

When you couple prayer and fasting, you will be more sensitive to the Holy Spirit, and you can better hear God. Fasting keeps our focus on God and not on food and other distractions that take our attention from Him. We train ourselves to keep away from distractions when we fast and pray. This guarantees that we mature in our faith and become better Christians.

6. REPENT

If we confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

When we repent, we receive God’s forgiveness and the grace to do better next time. Repenting means that we turn away from our sins and choose to obey God’s Word. This makes us better Christians because of forsaking our sinful lives and choosing to live according to God’s ways.

Repentance gives us a chance to stay connected to God and have continual fellowship with Him. God also strengthens us not to keep falling into the same sins. He is gracious and merciful, and is always ready to help us become better Christians that have a great impact in the world.

7. FELLOWSHIP WITH OTHER BELIEVERS

We become better Christians when we fellowship with other believers and grow together.

We may be in a season where it is not always possible to fellowship with other Christians like before because of movement restrictions. However, there are other ways we can fellowship with believers that do not involve a physical meeting.

Make use of online meeting places like Zoom, Facebook, WhatsApp, or any other media that is available in your part of the world. Virtual meetings are important because we get to keep in touch with others and still share the Word of God with them.

In future we may not have big gatherings and may have to make do with smaller ones. If the apostles and early believers made it meeting in their homes to fellowship and study God’s Word, we too can make it (Acts 2:46-47).

8. REMAINING COMMITTED TO THE FAITH

When the storms of life hit, many Christians walk away from the faith because they are disappointed with God.

We have seen many Christian ministers in recent times declaring that they are no longer Christians or have become atheists. They are no longer committed to their relationship with God. But being committed to God is what makes you weather the storms of life knowing that God will never forsake you.

In Isaiah 43:2, God promises us that when we pass through the waters, rivers, and fire, we will not be destroyed. We should therefore hold on to our relationship with Him knowing that He will never let go of us.

We don’t have to fall away from the faith because others did; we don’t know their inside story. You can remain committed to God no matter what happens around you.

9. JOURNAL YOUR FAITH JOURNEY

Keeping a journal and recording your journey of faith in Christ will show you how much you have grown over the years.

A journal is a handy resource that you can use to capture the things that God speaks to you during your devotion times. Sometimes we underestimate our growth as Christians when we don’t see much happening on the outside.

Yet God is doing a lot of work in your heart to prepare you for things ahead in your life. Journaling helps you write your thoughts and allows you to pour out your heart to God. You can get a journal from your local Christian book store or use a journal app on your phone.

10. LISTEN TO CHRISTIAN TEACHINGS

Growing as Christians means that we consume the Word of God daily.

Many Christian ministers have put videos on YouTube with teachings from the Bible, and you can listen to those you find relevant to your life.

By listening to others teach the Word of God, you will hear new perspectives that will give you a deeper understanding of the Scriptures. Our faith grows when we hear the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

CONCLUSION ON HOW TO BECOME A BETTER CHRISTIAN

The 10 ways above are a good starting point to becoming a better Christian.

You can also pray and ask God to show you how can grow in your faith and live a more impactful Christian life.

You don’t have to struggle to become better, God will help you by His grace. He sent the Holy Spirit to help us obey His Word and live by it daily. With God’s help we can become better Christians in every season of our lives.

Only when we accept Christ as Lord does the Holy Spirit renews our minds, helps us understand God's will and practice His commandments in our daily lives.
